Who are the Nittany Nomads?
Nittany Nomads is a nonprofit organization based in Centre County, Pennsylvania, that sponsors an average of six volksmarches a year. Chartered by the American Volkssport Association (AVA) in August 1991, the club currently has about 30 members and is actively seeking new ones. Our primary purpose is to promote fun and friendship with the added benefits of good health and physical fitness. We come together to explore new places, catch up with friends, and have fun. All this and some exercise thrown in for good measure.
Weather permitting, we walk Monday evenings during Daylight Savings Time and Sunday afternoons during the rest of the year. Call 540-420-1592 or email us for the weekly walk location.

What is Volksmarching?
Volksmarching is a walking sport for those dedicated to enriching their lives through physical fitness. The sport can be an energy and mood enhancer - rarely do you find grouches on the trail, and it will surely add spice to your regular routine.
Volksmarching is a relatively new sport in the United States. The aim of the sport is to get people of all ages out of doors to exercise in a noncompetitive atmosphere where all who enter and finish are declared winners! The sport originated in the early 1960s in southern Germany, has grown, and is flourishing in nearly 30 countries. The parent organization is the International Volksports Verband (IVV). "Volksmarch" literally means "people walk". Infants can be pushed in strollers, and young and old alike walk (or run) the route, receiving credit when they finish the event.
